Sensory Processing Support in Sandwell

Here at SPVU  our main focus is to ensure that we have an understanding of the things that impact on our members and their families.

We have noticed that there is one issue that gets mentioned time and time again.

SENSORY PROCESSING

SUPPORT

From what we have heard, there are some children and young people where proffesionals acknowledge their sensory processing difficulties.

However the support they get is not always consistent or pitched at their specific level of need. That is if any support is given at all.

We have heard of children and young people with sensory processing difficulties where professionals refuse to acknowledge the level of need and the impact it has on the individual.

We have heard of children and young people with sensory processing difficulties where proffesionals try their hardest to accommodate individual needs but do not have the qualifications or resources to do this accordingly.

CAN YOU RELATE TO ANY OF THESE SITUATIONS?

We are keen to explore these things and endeavour to raise awareness of the collective issues with senior proffesionals in the LA who are in a position to make positive changes.

At SPVU we engage with parents through various means including through social media and online meetings.

What we have found to be noteworthy is that even when sensory processing is not on the agenda to be discussed it always comes up in conversation.

Whether this be in meetings that have a specific focus such as transport or in generic meetings, support for sensory processing is always something that causes concern and frustration.

Examples are shared with us about how sensory processing  influences various areas of day to day life.

Looking at the diagram below Is like a light bulb moment. 💡

It highlights that in order for certain things to be achieved to the full potential sensory processing needs have to be met first.
