Parent Meetups

May and June we launched our parent carer meetings. These have been arranged at times voted for by parents.

Some of you told us you wanted a meeting with an agenda and visiting speakers. Some of you told us you preferred more fluid meetings with parent carers only.

We are now in a position to offer 2 meetings per month. The third Monday of the month is our agenda meeting and the second Thursday of the month we have our parent carer only meetings.

So far we have had 14 different parents log in and 25 attendances which over our first 4 meetings is Amazing!

What have we been talking about?

Monday 21st June we welcomed SEND adviser to our meeting. She talked about the changes being made to the annual review process. Parents asked questions and raised issues. We even offered to help them refine the parent and pupil feedback forms which are completed as part of the annual review process!

Popular themes in all meetings were:

  • Travel training for pupils going to college

  • Choosing a school or college in the current circumstances

  • Short breaks and how the increase in use of personal assistants for adult social care and short breaks isn’t helping children and young people experiencing loneliness or enhancing their social skills within group settings.

  • Accuracy of reports about our children which overstate their skill sets.

  • School’s reporting to you they can’t meet your child’s needs anymore.

  • Elements Part F of Education Health and Care Plans not being delivered as specified in the plan.

We gather all this information from you and our SPVU ambassadors make sure we share your issues and concerns at appropriate meetings within Sandwell. Please join the conversation by attending a meeting.
